Joe Minter (b. 1943)
"Jesus Loves the Little Children," 2000
Baby stroller, dolls, lithograph of Jesus and other found objects, 40 x 22 x 62
Joe Minter's use of a baby stroller stuffed with worn-out dolls and an old framed print calls to mind the assemblages of contemporary trained artists, who also employ found objects to fashion works of art. The construction's title "Jesus Loves the Little Children" is inspired by a Christian hymn, but Minter's poignant vision creates a metaphor symbolizing the disposability of human life.
